Wink Mirrors-I've done something stupid!!

I have removed my passenger side trailer mirror from my '99 F350 to re-paint the flaking off paint from the stalks.
I figured to do the job a little quicker I'd use some spray of paint stripper.
Well I did and it removed the paint alright but the stripper also evedentally somewhat softened the plastic on mainly the plastic part that goes aganst the door and kind of made a mess of it.
I think I might be able to fix it by sanding it some then painting it....but I'm concerned about what it will look like.
I'd really like to use this experiance to upgrade to the nice '08 mirrors, but I have been un-employed since January and have been doing low-or no cost upkeep maintenance on my truck since then to keep costs down.
Any suggestions?? or may be does anyone have a RH mirror for parts I could buy the part I've damaged from or the whole mirror if need be for a reasonable price?
These are just the plain power trailer mirrors on my LATE 1999 F350 (non-telescoping) Thanks Guys for any help! Rick

Damn! I just replaced the ones on my 99 ! Fig no one would need one and I threw them in the dumpster!!!! I bought a new set of power and telescoping off Ebay for $194 . I really like the telescopeing feature ! Almost took off the wide ones a couple of times!!

If you go the route of sanding just make sure you finish sand before paint with a 320 grit or finer then use Krylon Fusion. Sticks great to plastic without needing to use a primer.

I'm also thinking that I could use a manual mirror if someone has one and use my electrics....I feel so stupid!

You might be able to find a replacement at a local salvage yard.

Guys, Juwst to let everyone know that "bens99f350" has offered me his old RH mirror for free!! its a manual non-telescoping model so I'll have to just rob the back plate off of it for the one of mine that I have damaged.
I want everyone to know just how much I appreciate Ben doing this for me, I guess its kind of a pay back situation as I sent anouther member a tailgate moulding for a '75 XLT tailgate for free a while back just for the shipping cost, he was in the same boat I'm in being un-employed and the $$ are tight for him as well.
It is really great to be part of such a great group of people!! Rick

I am just needing to put my two cents in, I think that is really cool that Ben is helping someone out that is in need. I will tell you, you will not find that in the everyday life here in Los Angeles, CA

Yea, I know what you mean, I used to make fun of my Dad when he said "This world needs to do a 180*" now I agree 110% with his statement and I feel that if we went back to some old fashioned values that our country would be a better place!!
I've been part of the FTE for almost 9 years and have met a few members in person and all have been great folks.
One guy I met right on here was out in Oregon and he bought a 1970 Econoline for $100.00 at an auction and then sold it to me for $125.00, THEN he and his wife drove a fairly unknown vehicle over 3,000 miles to me in Florida, we all had a great long weekend then they flew back home......great folks!!

You are absolutely right. If the world did a 180 it really would be a different place. I guess all we can do is to continue to do the right thing. At least we will know that we did our share. Great story.
