I'm sure this has been addressed many times, but I can't seem to find any recent forums dealing with it. I am wondering about using a D44 from a 78 F250 in my 93 F250 Diesel. Is this going to be a heavy enough axle, will i lose any ride height, any problems converting brakes, what springs to use, any other considerations or tips that anyone wants to offer would really help me make a decision on whether to try this or not. I'd love to use a D60, but if the 44 will handle it, the $$$ would be more appropriate for my pocketbook.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-13-03 AT 01:02 AM (EST)]That oil burner's gonna be a lot of weight on that front end, but I suppose it could work.
I'm not aware of any SAS tech pages for a leaf spring swap like you propose, but it also should not be too hard.
The perches on your older D44 are almost surely more narrowly spaced, I bet you'll have to move each perch out approx 2". Weld on for proper caster and driveline angle and bolt it up to your existing leaf springs.
