I plan on occasionally carrying a slide-in popup camper that will bring me near to GVWR, and wonder if some type of helper springs on the rear would be of benefit. 90% of the time I'll be running around unloaded, and do not want to adversely affect the ride. Anyone have an opinion or experience with:
Steel Leaf helper springs like [link:www.hellwigproducts.com|Hellwig], or
Air helper springs like [link:www.ride-rite.com|Firestone Sport-Rite].
Thanks - jd.

Bags would be the best idea, but remember, they do NOT increase the weight that you can carry. They only allow you to level off the rear end of the truck when you put a load on it, and it will ride better when loaded.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:

Ive used the hellwig progressive rate helper springs on my 79, worked great for me...they only kick in when yer loaded so the ride isnt affected as bad as standard overloads...

I DRIVE A 1999 F-250 SUPERDUTY REGULAR CAB 4X4 WITH THE POWERSTROKE DIESEL, RANCHO RS 9000 SHOCKS AND 315/75R-16 BUCKSHOT MAXXIS MUDDER TIRES. ABOUT 2-3 TIMES A WEEK I PULL A 2-HORSE GOOSENECK SUNDOWNER TAILER THAT HAS A DRESSING ROOM 1-2 HOURS TO AND FROM HORSE SHOWS/LESSONS. I NOTICED WHEN THE TRAILER WAS ON THE TRUCK(LOADED WITH 2 HORSES AND TACK) THAT HE TRUCK HAD THE LOOK THAT IT WAS DRAGGING ITS REAR DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS ALSO WORRIED ABOUT PREMATURE WEAR OF THE SUSPENSION FROM THE LOAD SO I INSTALLED HELLWIG LP-35 HELPER SPRINGS. THE RIDE OF MY TRUCK WHEN IT'S NOT LOADED IS A LITTLE MORE FIRM, BUT NOT THAT NOTICEABLE WHILE THE BENEFIT IS VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN PULLING THE TRAILER.(LESS MOVEMENT OF THE TRAILER). THE SPRINGS ACTUALLY RAISED THE REAR OF MY TRUCK ABOUT 1 INCH AND ONLY COST ME 270.00 DOLLARS.
