Need a shift **** please

I'm looking for a splined shift **** for my '86 F-150/4-speed. Normal "H" pattern with the reverse on the lower right. None of the yards here seem to have any. Seen many a truck with the shifter rod, but no **** to be found. Called the local Ford $tealership and they stated it's a non-produced/stocked item.

So.....if anyone (Stosh) comes across one on their ventures, let me know and I'll gladly paypal ya.

Called the local Ford $tealership and they stated it's a non-produced/stocked item. That's BS!
Not only is that BS, it's double talk...there's no such thing as a non produced/stock item. It's either available, or it's not.

This shift **** IS available because the various Ford parts depots scattered across the US have a total of 430 in stock.

The depots closest to you are: Atlanta depot, which has 27 / Greensboro depot has 13 / Memphis depot has 17.

This info is taken directly from the FoMoCo parts locator system.

There's no dealer in MS that stocks it, so it will have to be ordered. Shouldn't take more than a coupla days.

Here's the Ford part number and pricing....

E2TZ7213B .. Gear Shift ****

MSRP: $7.92 / FTEpartsguy.com price: $5.70.

Wow!

Someone has the inside info. I'll call the same place later this morning (Dub Herring Ford, Picayune) and ask for that very same #. Then ask why they told me in wasn't available yesterday.

Many thanx and will post what happens!!

I do this everyday here on FTE.

I look up parts for members, price 'em out if available, search the dealers and obsolete parts sellers if the part is obsolete.

One more example why dealerships are not on our side, and with the economy going soft, they're giving up business. Buy from FTEPartsGuy.

With a few exceptions, it's been this way for years.

The older the vehicle, the less some peeps care, and today...it's even worse.

Today, there are more computer certified techs than there are REAL partsmen.

Today, all that needs to be done to find a particular part number...is...type the vehicles VIN into the system, the part number comes right up.

So...some of these beetle brained pinheads are lost, because that doesn't work with older vehicles. They haven't a klew.

They don't know the part numbers, don't wanna mess with it, and just shine you on.

I'd be willing to bet that some (most) of the so-called partsguys couldn't tell a Ford from a Chevrolet without reading the nameplates.

Follow up: Went there today in person and the same parts lady told me that it was "unavailable" after she had looked it up on the screen. Again, I asked if she's sure, and then now she said that the "**** was available, but the required insert wasn't" The part # she read back was the same as the one provided by numberdummy (again, thank you!)

My greifs are: I clearly asked about the ****. It was/and is very much available. Then why could she not say that she could get the ****, but not the insert??? If I had the ****, then I'm sure that I can find some sort of way to make it work.

Anyhoo, I'll have it tomorrow sometime around lunch-ish.

Does anyone here remember the commercial for Car Quest (I think) where the guy brings back a pipe that looks like it's an exhaust section. Anyhoo, it's all twisted up like a pretzel and even loops thru itself. The man behind the counter looks in a book, and states, "The book says it will fit" Again, the customer holds it up and says that "It don't fit" and I've never seen anything with a internal combustion engine that would take that. Obviously they are poking fun at the people who count strictly on the computer or book to tell them if a part will work or not. If you work at a "auto parts store, then at least know..**something**. I was/am an aircraft mechanic, but I wouldn't have trusted some of my co-workers to air the tires in my car.

Lastly, has anyone seen a car dealership (any brand) with a full service snack bar inside? Dub Herring Ford in Picayune has one and it's got smoked sausauge, hot dogs, bacon & egg sammiches, burgers, soft drinks....etc complete with tables to sit it. It's all cooked right there with nothing out of a vending machine.

What does that tell you?

It means customers are waiting long enough there for their vehicles that you have to feed them!

Not a good sign.......

.NO! but I went to a dealership where an old lady cooked/ and brought homemade samick's with every kind of meat you could think of. Makes me hungry thinking about them.

The insert is round, about 1/2" in diameter and just pops in/out of the ****.

If you have the old ****, just pop it out of yours.

There are two different ones. One was used only for the 4 speed overdrive.

If you do not have the O/D trans, and need the insert it's E2TZ7N280D.

There's no parts depot status for this insert, which usually means a part is obsolete. But, I found over 100 of them scattered around the country at Ford dealers. None in MS, tho.

And...yet another 300 or so of this same insert at various Ford obsolete parts sellers in the US.

Here's a couple...

Green Sales in Cincinnati OH has 58 = 800-543-4959

Parts International in Farmers Branch TX has 50 = 888-727-0418.

btw: The world's largest Toyota dealer (Longo Toyota-owned by Roger Penske) is a few miles west of us in El Monte CA.

They have a Starbucks, Subway, and a Triple AAA Office inside the main building, which is about the size of the Pentagon!

There are other dealers in the area (San Gabriel Valley-on the eastside of LA County) that have hot dogs, burgers, and etc, but usually only on the weekends.

Don't have the old ****, but I do have the overdrive transmission. I'll get the part number tomorrow for the insert for the overdrive transmission, and maybe you can locate some for me if ya don't mind.

Thanx again numberdummy!

Here's the part number:

E4TZ7N280A .. Insert-Use with O/D Transmission / Obsolete.

19 Ford dealers across the US (none in AL, LA or MS) still have stock.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obsolete parts vendors:
Green Sales Co. in Cincinnati OH has 21 = 800-543-4959
Miller Obsolete Parts in Binghamton NY has 1 = 800-546-7278
Yes, I have lamented over this fact for several years. I haven't encountered a "real parts guy" since the late 90's.... they've all retired!
NumberDummy,
I noticed you offered a discounted price for the shifter ****. Does this mean if we have the part number we can order through your website to get that discount? If that's the case, I'll be taking advantage of that.
The Ford dealer here never has anything I need and just about always tells me what I want is unavailable. I actually do better at the small Lincoln/Mercury dealer. At least they try.
Its the oddball small stuff that most of us need that's the hardest to find. Boneyard parts in those cases are usually no better than what we already have. Plastic and rubber simply break down over time.
I am thankful for places like LMC, NPD and the Bronco Graveyard. But even they don't have many of the things I need while trying to restore this old truck.
I did not offer anything. I just typed the part numbers and prices.
I'm a RETIRED Ford partsman, see my signature for what I do here.
I do not get paid by anyone to do this either.
It's my choice, my hobby..strange as that may seem to some of y'all.
I'm not FTEpartsguy.com = that's Ed Olson @ Parr Ford in Bremerton WA.
The link to FTEpartsguy is on this page among the FTE sponsors.
FTE has 4 Ford dealer parts department sponsors that give discounts on parts off the actual Ford MSRP.
You don't even need the part number, just contact the sponsor, request what you want.
Or post the request in a new thread. I can look up the number(s), price them out, search for the parts if obsolete.
Posting the info into a new thread allows other members to take advantage of the info.
Why do I do all this? Because as I typed above, most dealers today could give a rats azz about older vehicles.
I'm also a collector..and I know from experience what peeps go thru trying to get parts for older vehicles.
If y'all think parts are hard to find for a 1980's Ford truck, just try and find them for a 1934 Packard!
