Hey I'm looking at getting Rhino liner or Line X sprayed down the sides of my truck, around the wheel wells, from the rocker panels up to the taper(?) in the door. I'm doing this for a couple of reasons, I frequent gravel roads and would like to avoid paint chips and to seal up the area and hopefully deter rust as I live in Canada. So what do you think about the idea and the products. Any input is appreciated.
I dont know about the texture of line x, but mine has rhino liner. When its finished, it feels somewhat rubbery. Ive seen other liners that get to be harder. Im not saying line x does, because Im not sure Ive ever seen it first hand. I just like the rubbery feel of the rhino liner. Heres a couple pictures of mine....
When they put my utility bed on, they used some offbrand "extreme liner" I believe was the name. It feels more like the cheesier walmart rattle can stuff. If I would have known that, I would have had it done at the rhino liner place. I was told it was going to be rhino liner, then when I showed to pick it up, it was "extreme liner". Too bad they are the only reading body dealer for quite a few hours.
Also, FWIW, I had the rhino liner done a year or so ago, and also had the insides of the doors, and door sills done.
When I was looking into this, most folks said the Line-X seems to be more durable than Rhino. Not sure if there's any truth to it or not, but when I do the inside of my bed I'll be going Line-X.
Just make sure you get something with a good UV protector in it to prevent fading. For the rock chips, I'd suggest getting some of the little mud flaps for all 4 tires. They're inexpensive and work pretty well.
I searched my posts, looks like I had that done at the end of june, 2007, so a little over a year. On the rare occasion I wash it, the rhino liner looks really good, and doesnt show were the tree branches and stones have bounced off it offroad. I just hope the other crap holds up.
Just be sure that the surfaces are properly cleaned and prepped so that the lining will bond properly. I've heard of cases where this wasn't done and the lining came loose and trapped water behind it causing corrosion problems.
Linex would be the brand id use, They have a nation wide lifetime warranty on chips and scratches...
Yep. Rhino liners are only warrantied at the store that you had it done at. They're all independently owned, so little luck of getting it fixed anywhere else.
I've had the line x on the sides of my Ramcharger for about 10 years now. It's very durable. Do a search on youtube for Firecharger77. I've got a couple of videos of the truck in action.
Hey Firechicken, Welcome to FTE!! and thank you for your reply. Thats some wild driving in those videos! rebelchevy thanks for the pics, and doing the inside of the doors is a great idea, I'm going to try to get that done too.
