stage1 + TW chip= ?boost

Just got my stage 1 injectors and Tony Wildman chip in my truck. Wow, you guys were right. Huge difference than my superchips microtuner. I am pegging my new boost gauge at 35psi already. Could I buy a 60psi boost gauge and switch the plumbing thats already in my truck and still work fine. Also my boost gauge is bouncing quite a bit. Normal? Last question (sorry) where did most of you mount your pyrometer probe? Mine was put in the downpipe and not the manifold. So do I need to buy a new downpipe and switch the probe the driver's side manifold?

I put mine in the manifold, you shouldn't have to buy a down pipe, the thermocouple is just pipe thread so you can just plug it. Word to the wise, you gotta be very care full not to get any metal shavings in the manifold cuz from there it goes straight to the turbo!!

Yes you should be able to plug in a 60 psi boost gauge and have it work just fine. It determines boost inside the gauge so as long as you get a new 60 psi gauge it should work fine. And if your running the stock turbo i would be careful pushing those high boost numbers, the thrust bearing is go to around 35psi or so, and head gaskets go around 40 i believe.

from what i hear, the 30's are normal for stage 1's. i would assume that when you get a new boost gauge installed that you will find the needle doesnt go much higher than the 35 mark.

as for the pyrometer probe, you really dont have to worry about metal shavings. the drivers side up-pipe is easy to get to and you are drilling almost straight up so 99% of the metal falls down anyway and the tiny bit that may be in the pipe will get blown past the turbo long before it ever spools up. no worries

also after you get done drilling take a vaccum and suck the shavings out of the hole. that way you know you wont do any damage to ur turbo.
also like coon said the shavings will be blown out before the turbo spools.

Where can I find a plug to cut off the nut welded into the downpipe. Do I really need to be worried about the 35psi and is it worthwhile to switch the boost guage?

keep the nut on the down pipe my friend do not cut it off!! thats where youll place the plug. i got the 60 psi for my boost gauge since i wanted to know EXACTLY what i was runnin. i wanted to make sure i wasnt near that danger mark. to be honest i can hit 38psi so its good to have overkill IMHO good luck
