i have a 08 fx4 4x4 super screw 6.5ft bed. whats the max weight i can haul in the bed? im reading max payload of 1630lbs and gvwr of 7200lbs. idk what either of this means?
If you're running the stock tires I would stick to the suggested 1600lbs or else feel the sway of overloading. However, I've upgraded to e rated tires and added a leaf in the back of my f150 and have carried over 4500lbs in the box of my truck. It won't win any races, and the local traffic authority won't be very nice to you, but you could haul that much weight if you wanted to.
Also the GVWR means gross vehicle weight rating...aka the total mass of the truck plus cargo.
ok this might be a dumb question but how would i figure out how much weight is in my bed.. if say one gallon of water weights 10 pounds and i fill the bed to the top how much weight is in there?
Like 4Door said, these trucks are quite capable, it's the tires that are sometimes questionable. Plus you don't want to create expensive repairs. Better to make two trips and spend some gas than blow tires, have an accident or fry something. If you weigh a bottle or whatever and just multiply out what your carrying and estimate the other stuff you should at least ball-park it. Also, you'll know when your stressing the truck, it will start to get that "sad" look that's unmistakable. Low bed, bulging tires etc, your overloaded.
Everyone has had some great info on the GVWR issue. But remember always an even better idea to simply take 5 mins and check your owners manual for all your trucks info and capabilities.
Again as 4door said a truck with a beefed up suspension can carry way more than the rated spec. But as Mr. Dave said better safe than sorry. One thing to remember is that larger wheels reduce the trucks rated capacities. 18" wheels reduce the GVWR by 500#. I wonder about the numbers you list as the Ford site gives payload as 1500# and GVWR as 7200# for the 4X4 157" wheelbase; Get Specifications for trucks, like the Ford F-150 pickup, here | Ford Vehicles
ahh...max payload is crap......i hauled 3500 lbs of sand in the bed of my 05.....
LOL.....just kidding...while i did actually do it...the axle was right down onto the bump stops and it wasn't going to win any handling races ... Its a good idea to keep to what it says in your owners manual...
Easy way to know the weight of a load, get your unloaded truck weighed at a truck stop or sanitation dump, and then weigh it with the load, subtract the difference. Also, take into consideration the weight of the driver, fuel, etc.
7200lb gvwr -6000lb truck with fruids -driver 200lbs= 1000lbs in the bed.It will handle 1500 easy though.Your local gravel pit will often weigh your truck for free also just to know the exact weight of your truck.
