My truck is getting harder and harder to start and the voltometer has gone from reading 15 to just barely registering on the gauge. Upon inspecting the alternator today I noticed that the ground wire loop is broken and was not making a good ground. Is this alternator dead? If it is how hard are they to replace? I can't work on it until this sunday at earliest can I make it? Where is a good place to get a replacement?
P.S. the batteries are brand new Duralast Golds.
well first thing i would do is fix that bad ground.
then take ur volt meter and test it. if you look on the back of the alt. there will be a spot to ground it. it will say "ground here-> to test"
and i think it needs to read 14 volts to be charging the batterys properly.
