Question Torque Coverter Chatter

I Have A 99' F250 7.3 With A Heck Of Chatter Noise From The Trans. Sounds Like Marbles In A Coffee Can, It Stops Above 750 Rpm.
The Truck Has 216000 On It 20000 Of Which Are Mine No Problems So Far, Ive Heard From A Couple Of Different Sources That Its Called "torque Converter Chatter" And Is Caused By The "stater" In The
T-con. Which "free Wheels" (or Not) At 750 Rpm Anybody Ever Heard Of This?

Yup. Converter.
Some live with it. Some change it. I changed mine. Drove me nuts with the rattling.

I've heard of the rattling torque converters, but your explanation is a new one on me.

What happens is that the splines in the torque converter wear and then you hear the chatter. As they wear they send small steel particles through the trans. That's not a good thing. Eventually it wears enough that it fails.

That is another reason i changed mine. Didn't want it to come apart more than is was and flood particles. Yup.

I know a guy here at work that has a converter rattling. He said it has been that way for atleast 5 years.. But i didn't want to take the chance.

I just took out my brother's transmission due to a failed stator one way clutch....you'd know if that failed. The truck will barely get out of its' own way until about 45.

His convertor chatters......more like rattles when you shake it. It's full of yummy destruction.

Long story short.
Mine was loud and I hated it. No other issues. Just noise. Just worried about it distructing and making matters worse.Took to a tranny shot to confirm. They said Hole tranny was shot. $3600 to fix. Went to another tranny shop. They said it needs a rebuild. $2100 to fix. Went to ford. They said drive it, they didn't hear it. I decided to do myself and went to a shop to get parts that everyone at work told me about. I went to get parts, converter, pump bushing, seal. They quoted me parts and also quoted me a price to do to work. $650 total. I said What? The truck is yours. Took them a day. Been fine all summer even pulling big heavy camper. Quiet as a bell now. They said flywheel was fine and it was just the TC. They could here it when it was out just shaking it.
