Am I Crazy?

Am i crazy for using a 400M for my Fuggy Project? Most guys on the Pirate list say it is a piece of crap and won't run off camber. Am i wasting my time with it? My buggy is not going to be a mud runner. It will see 95% rocky trails. Anyone running one in a trail rig?

They arent known to make power. By the time you build one up. It would be cheaper to run a 460.
Just what ive seen though. i dont see why it would run any different off camber, than other motors.

my friend has a mild 400 in his 78, carb intake, cam headers, it keeps up with my almost stock 460 just fine and is like 170lbs lighter, for your fuggy that means alot. If you already have the engine I wouldn't think twice about using it. Should run off camber as well as any other carb motor, I think they say that because there is little options for aftermarket fuel injection and no OEM injection, if your really worried than run propane.

I am leaning towards propane, but i hear the oiling might be a problem.

well I don't think it would be a an issue but a good aftermarket pan and pickup would cure it. A stock truck pan will be better that a stock car pan. I don't which you've got.

I got the truck pan. I was thinking of moding the pan a 1" deeper and fab up a longer pickup. Unless there is an aftermarket one out there. I was also going to run an external oil line from the front of the block on drivers side to tee into where the oil sender is located. I have read that will help with oiling rear main.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. You would probably get farther with a 460, that is, if your going to build it up.

Not bad stock though.

I guess i am more concerned about oil pressure. I have read that the 351/400 have had oil problems. specificly to the main bearings. That is my main concern.
