I'd do it that way too, but you have to have the truck completely off the ground to switch them that way. I've always just switched back to front and front to back
I do the cross rotation. I jack up the back and put it on jackstands and then use the floor jack to change the fronts one side at a time. I always loosen the lug nuts before jacking up anything on the truck or they can be tough to get loose.

It actually only requires two jacks. One front at a time, and the other jack below the center of the differential. Move the front jack to the other side after that one has been switched to the rear.
Cross the fronts, bring the rears straight forward. That's how I do it, and thats how my dad did it for 16 years when he managed a tire store. Directional tires are something I never have (nor ever hope to) mess with.

My tires are almost bald. An even bald. It apears my truck runs pretty tight and straight. When rotating tires from the previous owner and i had her all jacked up. I noticed the arrows. I thought DANG... Jacked all 4 corners for nothing.

Right. The reason i only went from fronts to back. My Wifes focus is the same way..

thats how i have always done my tire rotations too
I've always brought the rears straight forward and the fronts straight back. If tire wear is looking uneven then I will cross going back (from front to opposite rear) to try and maintain even tire wear.
That's the rule of thumb I use: I only cross when going TO the drive wheels. Hence a FWD vehicle I will cross when going from rear to front (as I do on my wife's Santa Fe).
