Hello all,
I got a 86 ranger and I have just finished changing the head gaskets. My problem is that I have water in my oil and It isn't getting better. I drained the oil and the water still keeps coming. I did a comp. check on each piston after the head gaskets were installed and all is well. Is there another way for it to get there? Help.
No I didn't I guess that would be my fault. I thought that since there was no broblems that I could see I put them back on. Do any of you know where I could find some? Heads if that is what the preoblem is.
well I have got it the head is cracked. Anyone know of a good place to buy heads? I took the V. covers off and filled up the water and I found a fountian of water on the left head on the number one cyl. thats that.
Very common for 2.9 heads to crack. For replacements I would recommend World Products heads. I bought my '88 Ranger 2.9 with cracked heads and installed a set of these about ten years ago and have had zero problems since. They are thicker castings which solve the problem of cracking with the factory castings. World Products Ford 2.9L Heads - summitracing.com
While you have the heads off I would recommend replacing the valve lifters. They don't cost that much and it's impossible to replace them later without removing the heads again.
That's some good advice, lifters were also known to clatter on the 2.9l, though they would run like that forever. Used heads are a crap shoot, you never know if they'll be any good. If you do get used heads, make sure there is a guarantee of some kind, have them tested, and get the newest set of heads you can, the heads were revised around '88 to make them more durable.
If people only knew what a small filter can do to the proformance (sp) of a truck. The filter after the tank before the main pump on the frame was full of dirt and rust looked in the tank full of rust need a new tank any ideas?
