pinging

i have a 01 4.2l It pings alot under mild acceleration. Will seafoam in the gas help solve this problem? Any other thoughts would be very helpful too.thank

Highly unlikely. Try using a higher grade fuel to find out if that helps. If it does a motorvac might clean things out and stop it.

I've tried running prem fuel for two weeks or so. It doesn't make much of a difference.

Is your check engine light on? If you are running premium fuel and it is still pinging, I suspect that you are running lean and possibly have a vacuum leak or intake leak. The 4.2l engine is prone to intake gasket issues. Good luck.

hi, check on the v6 4,2 list and you will find a lot of engines have the same problem. search that forum and i think that ford gave no cause for concern. ps my 4,2 1997 also pinks badly but having 190,000 miles on the clock i am not at all worried. bokker.
