They say that the fluid used should be what the box specifies.
The pumps should handle any type of steering fluid.
The guy who posted post #74 on this thread claimed the pulleys don't interchange. I don't know if this is fact or not.https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...ering-fix.html

Hey guys....it seems that the "older" Saginaw/A1Cardone pump 20-6244 is very hard to find. But I hear folks are grabbing the PS Pump out of early to mid 90s econoline vans. That seems to be the A1Cardone model 20-7878. Does anyone have working knowledge of the differences, they look pretty much the same to me. (i.e. it seems that maybe there isn't much difference at all between 20-6244 and 20-7878).

Why do you say they are getting hard to find? I went up to Advance auto and ordered mine and got it like 2 days later.
Ive had mine on for about 9 months with nothing but great results.

Don't ever turn a Ford P/S pump side to side with the engine off, it will barf!
Completely normal. You have to take the cap off of it if you really have to turn the wheels with the engine off.
The saginaw pumps really are awesome! They are quiet and tough!
The steering wheel in my 11,000 pound motorhome is easier to turn than in my F150.

Did this conversion on my 93 F150. My truck has the 5.0 and 347,000 miles. My original pump was quiet but leaked like crazy, so i bought a Ford reman CII pump. The new pump didn't leak but whined like crazy. I bled it, flushed it, and bled it again. Still noisy.
I started researching on this site and found out about the saginaw. I seriously looked at the Cardone conversion as i found one on line that was still available but decided against it because of Cardone's quality issues. Instead, i bought a pump and bracket off of a 93 van 5.0. The bracket and pump bolted right on and my A/C compressor fit with no problem. For the hose, i was not successful in removing the outlet fitting from the CII pump. I got it out, but it has some sort of spring behind it and i was afraid i could not install it in the saginaw. Instead, i took my original pressure hose and the pressure hose from the van and had a hose shop crimp the van fitting on my rubber hose.
I poured Type F in the pump, cranked the engine with the starter and turned the wheels lock to lock, and then started her up. Quiet! The van pump is the way to go! Let me know if you have any questions.
