I've been searching for a couple hours on here and I havent found any good info. From what I've gathered, no companies make headers for 302-351W swaps. I know some people have used mustang shorty headers, but Im really not interested in denting in tubes or notching the frame to make them fit. So how about manifolds? Anybody know of a decent flowing exhaust manifold that will fit? I know its an odd question but most manifolds hug the block tighter than headers so I figured I would ask. Im building a performance motor and I dont want to choke it off with the stock cast iron 79 manifolds. Just looking for any help or suggestions. Thanks!!
I did a swap 351w into a 56 and we ended up using sanderson shorties on it, you might check with them, they make headers for 2wd that I found covering these years for the 302 and I have a set for the newer years and 4wd, but they don't say they will fit the 73 79 years. check summit and the sponsors here and your local parts houses to see what you can come up with I guess, maybe someone else knows of some. Is yours 2wd or 4wd?
Thanks. You must have been reading my mind because I was just looking at Sanderson Headers web site when you posted. I emailed them asking which headers would best fit my application so I hope they get back to me. My truck is a 2wd with a C6 trans. Do you remember which model you used (part #) How well do they fit and how is the quality of construction? Thanks for your time! Jason
the workmanship was great! They were spendy though, nickel plated but looked real fine! Flow tech makes regular headers for the 2 wheel drive models though, and some others I think, just listed under 67 to 79 or even later, seems the smaller motors had a bit more room or something
Thats good to hear about the workmanship. I dont mind paying for good quality. I've heard that Flowtech makes some that should fit but a friend has them on his truck and I wasnt real impressed with the workmanship. I want something that looks good and lasts. I had some L and L nickle plated headers on my 79 460 Bronco and I loved them. I think ceramic or nickle is the only way to go.
i had a set of hedman headers on a 79 f 100 it was a 302 no cutting was needed to install them. but that was a long time ago,so i dont remember a part #. im sure hooker makes them too. we had stock shorty headers off a 90 mustang 302 (5 litre),on a f250 4x4 too. there are headers avalable, just keep looking, youll find some that you will like.

Yea, there are plenty of headers available for F100 with a 302 since that was a factory option. I looked on Hookers website but the only swap headers they listed were for swapping in a 429/460. Im sure they are headers that will work but I dont want to have to keep sending them back if they dont fit. Hopefully Sanderson will have what I need.
They wouldn't really be swap headers if the motor was used in production with the model you have, just a thought if you are only looking in swap sections for them..

The 302 was an option. I swapped in a 351. All the headers listed are for the 302 and the only specific swap headers I could find was for a 429/460.
i assume you know that the 302 and 351w are the same engine family.(the width and deck height are not the same though). thats what we did on the f 250. it was a 351w swap into the truck, and we used the 302 5 litre mustang factory shorty headers.they worked well too. no cutting,no tube clearance issues. (im sorry i was not very clear in my first posting) i hope this helps.
Thats kind of what I was thinking. Its got to be one of the most common swaps out there and the header companies havent caught on? I guess I'll either go with Sanderson or some Mustang shorties and cross my fingers.
