Hi, I'm thinking of buying a 2000 Explorer with about 115,000 miles that a neighbor has for sale for a very reasonable price. He tells me that it won't idle when cold though so I'm wondering what the repair for that might be and how much it might cost to fix it, the truck runs and idles fine when warmed up though.
Aside from that what other things should one look for in these trucks or are there certain models which are more problematic. I'm going to take it for a test drive this afternoon, are there any checks to tell if the automatic transmission is OK. Thanks.
You can try pulling the codes. There may be a code stored even if the CEL is out. BOth the IAC and coolant sensor are easy fixes. It could also be an intake gasket which is more involved. Not sure if that was a problem on the 2000s or not. I'm sure others will jump in.
