Question Egr

I have an edelbrock performer w/egr on it. I obviously have egr heads, stock 2bbl carb.. It is a 78' 400 c6. My question is. What would happen if I use no smog pump, no egr(block it off) no smog crap at all, eliminate all of the vacuum b.s..? No vacuum delay valves, no vacuum spark retard. But still have smog heads and alum. egr intake. Will there be any adverse effect? What will happen to the egr port and and all that?

If you remove EGR, you may need to flatten the distributor's timing curve, and install richer jets. EGR engines are tuned slightly lean with a slightly advanced timing curve to compensate for the change in combustion chemistry. If you remove EGR without changing anything else, you may have some problems with pinging\detonation.
