Valve stem seals?
Namely, oil loading at idle and when compression braking - as evidenced by the big puff of oil smoke the first time you mash the throttle after idling a few minutes or after compression braking down a hill.
As also stated in the first post, I have pretty well eliminated oil consumption due to blowby (which seems to have been reduced by the AutoRX treatment I gave it, BTW) with an oil vapor trap. Looking at the vapor going into the trap and the fact that there is virtually no vapor coming out of the trap, (far less in fact than the other 6.9 I had - which only used about a quart every 1000 miles), I think it is safe to say THAT isn't where the oil is going.
It isn't leaking any.
It could be getting by the rings, I guess, but with decent compression and only a moderate amount of blowby, it doesn't seem likely that it could be pushing a quart past the rings every 100 miles - which is about the current rate of consumption.
What else does that leave? Valve stem seals.
If replacing them just cuts the consumption in half it would be worth the effort to do them...
