Hi, all.

I'm brand new here. I have an 83 F-350 with a 460. A previous owner swapped out the original carb for a 4300 (D1SF AA). The truck ran great after warmup but was very hard to start when cold.

I noticed the booster pump wasn't working very well so I put a kit in the carb. After installing the carb back on the truck it won't idle at all. It sounds like it has a vacuum leak but there are none. The carb only has 2 vacuum ports on it. 1 for the brake booster & 1 for the spark advance. With both plugged it still won't idle. You can lay your hand over the the bores & it will idle which tells me TOO MUCH AIR. Idle mixture needles have no effect.

I'm at a loss since the only difference in the carb now from before is a new needle/seat..booster pump...pump discharge needle & gaskets. All metal parts were cleaned in Chem Dip & all ports blown out with compressor.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

 

Welcome to the site. You might try moving this to the Fuel Injection, Carburetion and Fuel system forum. You'll probably get a quicker response.

 

You might want to take the carb back apart, and go through it again. Hopefully you did not throw any of the old gaskets away. It's very very easy to make a mistake, and use the wrong gasket in the kit.
