Has anyone else had a recurring message on your info center after draining the filter?
I attempted to drain my filter on three different occasions, everytime I got next to nothing out of the filter (except maybe some diesel fuel). The warning disappears. Next time I drive, same message comes on within 7 miles of driving. If I do nothing, turn the engine off when I reach the destination... the message does not reappear when the truck is started; however, within 7miles it comes back on.
Took the truck into the dealership for an oil change, 3 recalls (seat, fuel, and Venturi Tee) and to check the AC and back up sensors and the DPF (again!) ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with anything. They did find the Venturi Tee recall that I did not know about and completed work on the other two recalls. I have tried 3 mechanics and 2 different SAs at this dealership.
No Codes anywhere. They said they checked the fuel for actual water in the fuel... nothing. 7 miles away from the dealership, the Drain Fuel Water Separator warning comes on... I could go on, but I am primarly concerned with this warning light that keep coming on. The dealership did nothing other than idle the truck so I am sure the warning did not come in that short amount of time.
Take your serviceman for a 7 1/2 mile drive so he can see it occur. I've done that before. I say something is wrong and they say , oh no nothing was found wrong. So I took him out and showed him the issue and it worked. They found the problem. That was on my 2000 F350. Good Luck
Had the same prob on my 2007 6.0.Dealer said fuel pump had to be changed.OK for about 2500km and now has started again! I am going to let it ride for awhile and see what happens.
Guys, Looking for some advice/wisdom. On my last fill up I must have gotten water with fuel. My seperator light comes on daily for me to drain and I do so. Am I safe to assume that once I ran that tank of fuel out I should aleviate this problem? Any suggestions or advice?
run a fuel additive in your tank. make the mixture heavy. get one that removes water. i think you should run some all the time. your tank get small amounts of water in it all the time, just by the way a diesel system works.
power service is what i always use. you can find it anywhere(even walmart). that is why i use it. remember to always try to buy it (diesel fuel) at a place that sell a lot of diesel. it may cost a little more but you are less likely to get water.
Guys, Looking for some more wisdow on water in fuel. If the Drain Water Seperator light comes on is there any problem if your on the road and dont drain it for a while? Will it cause any problems or damage? In advance thank you for all responses. I also added the water additive and I'm still have water issues with this last tank of fuel. Am I thinking straight to think once I run this tank down I should be delpeting the water issue as long as I keep draining the seperator?
I had the same problem, I bought my 08 used with 25k on it. I'm assuming the filters had never been changed. I changed both and it took about 200 miles of driving and constantly opening the drain for the warning chime to stay off. Hope that helps
Dan
If none of the above work then the sensor might be bad. Have not experienced it but have heard of it happening.
ajm50,
You definately do not water to enter your engine. The seperator tries to eliminate that from happening but if it reaches capacity then water will enter your engine. I would drain it once a month as recommended. Just my 2 cents.
