I went and got it today. I would love to deal with this type of people every day. She was almost apologetic for not accepting my first lowball offer, apologetic to a future caller for having already sold it to me, and filled it up with gas before bringing it to the courthouse to transfer. What's with people these days???
I have tracked my fuel comsumption since I bought my '04 in May of '07. I have averaged ~15.5 mpg. For some reason I feel compelled to log every tank of gas and the milage in an Excel sheet.
Anyway, there have been good tanks around 20mpg and bad tanks around 13 mpg. I just hit 100K at the beginning of October.

It's nice to know there are still those that care in the world and have a sense of morals and values. I would like to think that other than think it is someone trying to pull one over on you anyway. I have a couple of friends that have been taken to the cleaners on their last deals. I've been fortunate not to ever have it happen to me.

I have books in all of my vehicles that I keep track of all fill-ups, maintenance, and other work done. When I changed engines in the Explorer, I also changed the instrument cluster, so the mileage was wrong at the time of inspection (went from 179,824 to 3,222). I ended up having to go to the state to prove the mileage discrepancy and my little book with all my notes was what saved the day. The guy could not believe I had 12 years of fill-ups listed page by page along with every oil change, tire rotation, air filter, etc.
Once I can afford a new truck, I hope to do same thing. But I dont think I can log every gallon of gas I pump into it. And I dont think I would want to know how much Im spending on fuel too. Anyways props to those who take such pride in their light trucks. I try too even though mine is simply an XLS model.
IB Washincars hope you still got the truck for a nice deal and she treats you well.

I was well pleased with the truck. I offered $7500 and they countered with 8K, which I accepted. It has 86K on it and is loaded to the hilt. The tires are new (all 5 of them), they changed the oil friday, it is in nearly showroom new shape, and was a pleasure to drive the 60 miles home. Yeah, I think I did ok
Congratulations on your new explorer. My '99 gets ~16-18 (combined, mostly highway). It's not the first choice for my daily commute of ~75 miles but it's the most comfortable ride I own. I also kept that fuel log the first couple of years but then got off track due to a bump in the system and never got back to it.
