I'm new here and have been searching for answers regarding upgrading to an OD transmission and coupling it to an NP 205. What I've found so far is limited. First I'm working on my "79 Bronco with a 400 and C6/NP 205. I'm swapping in a 408 windsor stroker that will be mated to an E4OD out of a '95 F150 4X4. The E4OD was was rebuilt by PATC to their level 3 specs and should be bulletproof. To run the E4OD you do need a computer. The best that I've located is from Baumann Engineering. Do a search for the Optishift. This unit will alow a computer controlled transmission to be run in a non computer controlled vehicle. I ordered mine the other day and the cost for the Optishift, wiring harness, and wire loom was a little over $600.00. Now I'm at the point of trying to figure out which transfer case. I've used the NP 205 in every 4X4 I've had simple because they came in the vehicle. Due to their durability I'd like to stick with the one I have presently. The bolt patterns are the same on all ford transfer cases. I haven't found a definitive answer on mating the E4OD to the NP 205 so if anyone has some information on the feasability of doing this I'd be intersted in hearing about it. I also have the BW 1356 that came from the '95 parts truck that will be used if the NP 205 is not doable. Any input would be appreciated.
Yes, the bolt patterns for the tail shaft adapter are all the same. The spline count is the same. if you have the correct length adapter any ford specific transfer case will bolt up. What I've found from searching is that some claim the front driveshaft hits the E4OD, different crossmember needed, different transmission mount needed, etc. Can't find a thread by someone who has done the swap and the issues in doing it were that big of a deal.
OK guys, I want to go the OTHER WAY. I have a 1990 F-350 dualie king cab with the 460 and the 4EOD transmission.
The truck is starting to have big problems with the worthless the day it was designed computerized engine management system, and I am going to put a set of heads, intake, carb, and distributor from a 71 or 72bLincoln continental with a 460 on the engine. I am ALSO going to go with a C-6 tranny. I don't care about the mileage difference, I want RELIABILITY, and not needing a computer to tell the tranny what to do. Where I live in Texas, we get away with ripping the computers off the vehicles, I have already done that to two of mine, and they start and run better than they EVER did.
WHAT do I need to do, to put a C-6 behind the de-smogged 460, in a 2WD F-350?
Brie
step 1. remove crap from truck
step 2. put new tranny and carbed 460 back in
step 3 get you a ignition box and wire it up
step 4 continue polluting the world
THANKS Larry, I did not expect it to be that easy. At least when I get it so that it is a reliable runner, it will pollute far less the one of the 18 wheelers running up and down the interstates, and this truck lives in the most sparsely populated county in the state of Texas. (This county is the second largest in land mass in the State, yet only has 3,000 people living in it).
I'm waiting to see if the EPA forces the ranchers to install "Methane containment systems on the back of every cow in the State of Texas <G>.

they would be better off mandating a "methane containment system" being put over the mouth of every politician in washington dc.
the amount of gas recovered in one week would power every powerplant in the country for a decade.
