When I hit a slight bump or divot in the road at 55 mph or over the
drivers side wheel starts hopping like mad. So bad I have to practically slow down
to 35 mph to get it to stop.
I came home today and jacked it up and found nothing loose underneath.
Could the shocks be bad with only 56800 miles on it ???
Search for "death wobble". I think a steering stabilizer and some high quality shocks help it out a lot. Also, make sure your tires are properly inflated. Thats all I know, up pre-'05 people don't have the problem with leaf springs
Thank You cartmanea for the key words "death wobble"....I just spent the last 2 hours reading
up on the subject on this forum.
All I can say is this...
I own this truck 3 and 1/2 years ( I got it new)...
Life was a lot easier back when I was driving those little F-100s/150s around for all those years with there cute little 300 CI sixes and 2 wheel drive....
Oh hope your right Lou...That its just the shocks.
I went to R&S tonight to get some for this "headache" and they said they have to order them.
To the tune of $91.08 a piece !!!
I guess the days of the $8.00 Gabriel "Red Ryders" (with the lifetime warranty) for my 66 Custom Cab are a thing of the past ?
bout ur wobble i had a 95 dodge that did the same thing and but at 35mph it would shake so bad speed up or slow down it would stop. make shure that u check everything i really dont think shocks are the fix. ball joints wheel berrings drag link sway bar etc need to be throughly checked. could be a bad tire too.. good luck
If it has the factory steering stabilizer, that may be bad as well....mine caused excessive feedback through the steering wheel on my 07. Try removing it if the wobble is still present after the shocks.
I'd also recommend an alignment if you haven't had the truck aligned recently.
I think you paying to much for shocks, I got 4 Bilsteins for $245 @ Shockwarehouse, a supporter of this web site. Put them on my 05 this last weekend, its an hour job to swap out. And well worth the money, I definitly noticed a big difference. I replaced my stabilizer a few months ago and it didn't fix my wobble. I regret not getting a dual set up.
baker, i have a 97 dodge 2500 with a total of 9" of lift ad it did the same thing. its not when i just hit a big bump or pothole, it the sharpness of the hit that starts the wobble. on mine, it wound up being a bad coil spring. i got skyjacker to warranty the pair 7" lift spring for me. it drove me crazy for a LONG time. new shocks and all that jazz.
and thats what Im thinking is wrong with this truck...my shaking is not side to side
it is up and down (violent too) this was confirmed by someone who was riding next to me in another vehicle.
BT
yup, mine actually was hopping so bad that the tire would come off the ground while driving 50 mph. when i slowed to 30 or so, it stopped and i continued to drive normally like it never happened.
oh, you will be passing my exit on the turnpike. i am at the willow grove exit. which is gonna be like the 3rd exit once you get into pa. beep when you go past, ill know its you. lol. you should be fine driving up the pike. its not that bad of a road. it never made my truck do it. for me,it was only on the crappy city streets with the lousy roads.
