i have a problem that i listed in the 1980-1996 trucks and vans forum that i know some of you can help me with. im not sure why i posted it there, i just did. im trying to decide on which gears to install, 4.10 or 4.56. all the info is listed in that forum under 4.10 or 4.56?.... if anybody can help me out, please do as i need this info ASAP...thank you very much!
i have all the info in the other forum, but i'll be glad to list them here if you can help me out. its a f150 XLT 2wd auto. 6" superlift suspension, 3" body and 35x12.5 mud terrains. its a daily driver and has to make a 3hr trip each way to Texas A&M about 5-7 times a year. i am concerned about gas milage, but i also want it to have enough power to go through minor mud and off road if ever needed. hope this helps and ill keep looking for your reply....thanks
From the sound of the way you are going to use the truck I would say 4:10 gears would be the best for you.You might also want to consider a locker for better traction while off road.I would probably go with a Detroit Locker.I have 4:56 gears in my 79 with 460 35" Swampers and Lock Rights front and rear. The only thing I don't like about the Lock Right is if you step on it when driving down the highway it feels like the truck wants to change lanes without turning the wheel.I mainly use my truck for towing a car trailer and off road use(Truck pulling, mud, hill climbing, etc.)and the 4:56's and lockers work great. In your case 4:10's would give you the best overall performance and mileage.Just my opinion.Hope this helps:-)
