This is my first post. I am working on my daughters 2001 Mazda B4000. It has 4.0 with auto tran 4x4. The truck for no known reason would not start. I tried all of the normal things 1st. Battery is good, terminals, fuses and so on. I was able to get the truck to start by jumpering the starter selanoid and key to the run position. I pulled the starting relay and was able to jumper 12+ and get the starter to spin. This proves good wiring to the starter from relay panel. I pulled the trim off of the steering column and was able to verify power out of the ignition switch in start position. From there the red/ lt blue wire disappears to never never land. I jumpered the park/neuteral switch connection. no help. From the poor wiring diagram from my chilton manual it would appear the raps module is the culprit or a bad starter interrupt relay. Trying to find the location of the starter interrupt relay. I would like to disable the rap module input to the {SIR} Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any one have a this problem. Thanks Bermblaster
As you say the wiring diagrams in Haynes or Chiltons are pathetic.
I've been surprised to find diagrams in the newer Ford owners manuals that include fuse & relay locations. If you dont have the owners manual the relay should be under the hood in the relay box. Hopefully the underside of the box lid will have a diagram.
I do have the owners manual and it tells the location and position of all relays in that box, but not the starter interrupt relay. I am sure they don't want it easily found because of it being part of the security system. Thanks for your input . Berm!
