I've heard that pinions for pre-1992 10.25" rearends are shorter than post 1992 pinions? I recently purchased a Ford Racing ring and pinion online.
It´s Ford Racing part# M-4209-K410M (Ford 10.25 rearend gear 4.10 ratio)
Would anyone happen to know if this is the right pinion for my rearend?
My truck is an 88 F-250.
I'll go out back and compare my 87 to my 94 and 95 tomorrow and see if I can measure any kind of obious difference for ya when I get a minute and then post back. (All sterling axles)
Keep in mind it will be done from the outside of the housings, but should be good enough to figure any change in pinion length/housing differences.
I have heard that they're different too, but never compared them side by side. I would try calling a local gear shop and see if they know. There are also a couple of ring & pinion vendors online that would probably be able to answer questions.
