Hey everybody I'm new to your site. Looks like a great place! Here's my question I have a 2006 Explorer the lights do not seem as bright as the 2004 I had. Which replacement bulbs would help? It also seems to be a hesitation when shifting between 35 mph and 40 mph any ideas?
I'm not sure about the shifting..my 2000 X does the same.. it's like its hesitant or not sure what to do or when to shift LOL
As for the lights.. I picked up a set of HID's with the High/Low.. I chose them originally because i drive mostly outside the city and i need all the light i can get due to wildlife and it just being so dark..plus on rainy or foggy nights i have a rough time seeing..
If you do mostly city driving and the vast majority of the roads are well lit u won't need a bright bulb like a 6000K, so feel free to go for an exotic color 8000k or higher.. I have a 6000K but in single..basically only highbeam but i adjusted them down so i wasn't blinding people... and now my 8000K HID's.. I use my 8000k's and i drive primarily in places with no lighting..It Seems from what research i did that your vehicle has the H13/9008 Bulbs (don't take my word for it!).. I will post this link to show you a set similar to the set i purchased.. These bulbs are basic plug and play.. U mount an actuator box to control the movement of the bulb up and down due to the fact they are a single filament unlike traditional halogen bulbs.. and a few wires to the battery terminals and thats about it. I had a few sets before and these are by far the best I've seen so far..
my apologies for the long post.. if you should have any questions feel free to send me a message.. I also have some pictures of these lights in action.. for anyone that hasnt converted over to the HID's yet.. WELL worth the investment!
I remember seeing at least one TSB related to shifting issues on the early Gen 4 Explorers. Call your local dealer and ask if they can reprogram the PCM for your's to tighten up the shift points.
At 30k the radiator in my 06 had to be replaced. I theorize that if the transmission cooler was part of the rad they just plugged the lines when they disconnected the rad and never bothered to top off the trans fluid when they put it back together. it shifted extremely rough and hesitated on the 2 to 3 shift. I had an independent shop drop the trans pan, replace the filter and refill. It shifts like new.
