You need "setting tape". This is a rubber type tape that you fold length wise and push into channel before glass is installed. Use some window cleaner as a lubricant to get glass to slide. Don't use oil,WD-40 or similar sprays because the oils get trapped and will potentially cause bubbles in edge of glass. I sat frames on a 2x4,installed tape, shot it with windex and used rubber hammer to bump the glass in. Works well, you can find this tape at Mid-fifty,Sac. Vintage Ford maybe even a local glass shop.
Where are you in Az, Ira? I have just finished one of my doors with new pieces from LMC Truck Parts. The channel you are talking about is the division bar and is several components together in 1 piece. I see no real alternative to buying the new repop piece and they aren't that expensive. I'm in Glendale, if you're anywhere close it would be worth looking at mine.

I have the division bar and components but I did not get a piece of rubber that goes inside the vent frame itself. I have everything but these pieces.
I found the tape mentioned in the post above at mid fifty. I think Iwill give them a call tomorrow.
