I ran across a 51 F6, 6 cylinder, with a pretty good body, the guy said it ran but has been parked for a while. He said to make him an offer and I don't even know what to offer him. Sorry, didn't have my camera with me. Anyone have any ideas on what it is worth? It is pretty complete, glass is good, magic aire heater.
Give us some more info. What type of bed? Rust through anywhere? I paid no more than $475.00 for the ones I bought. The price has gone up the last couple of years though. I would guess if you can get it under $800.00 you did well.
I got to see this truck in person yesterday. It was outstanding. i bought a cab for my N series off of him. Tom was great to buy from. He and his brother helped me load it and pull the cab off the old frame. Great people who love big old trucks!Classic Refuse Trucks
The guy lives about 100 miles from me so I hope to get up there this coming week or weekend. I want to get the truck but don't know what to offer the guy, maybe $500 would be fair? He said it ran and pulled very strong but he loaned it out and when it came back the motor had no power at all, it ran but wouldn't go over 30 MPH or so. I think it sounds like a bad timing gear, but I don't know too much about the 6's, do you think it has the fiber gear like the V8's?
The refuse truck is fantastic. We have a 49 or 50 Fuel truck over east of me and it is like new. The guy that owns is is kind of a jerk though, I asked to look at the motor and he said "I don't want nobody touching or looking at it"? I asked him what the hell he put it in the car show for then and he couldn't come up with a sensible answer.
Why is it that they almost always say, "Yeah, it ran when I parked it!" They usual always ran before you parked them but what's the reason you parked it?
Well, the reason he parked it was like he said, it had no power and would not pull or run much over 30 mph. The truck has not been abused or misused so I pretty much believe the guy plus he just sounded honest. We visited for 1/2 hour or so about old ford trucks.
