I got a problem sorta?

Well today my Mom took my friends and I to the mall (Long Story) she drooped us off and went to another store, about an hour later she call me and said the truck starts then she puts it in drive and goes 10 feet and it dies. She did it 3 times then said that was it and that was it and said for me to come look at it. She was 7 miles away and my friends and I had to walk it probably took us 1 1/2 hours and thats how long the truck sat. So I get there start it up and drive it around the parking lot and no problem. I even lit the tires up for a second and nothing not even a hick up. So we drive home and it does nothing and drives perfectly. So I am kinda stumped here so any help is appreciated,
Thanks
Nick

Sound like it could be the CPS.. Did your Mom have the CPS done under recall yet from Ford? Thats where I would start!!!! $ 29.00 bucks from Ford without the recall (grey one ), or order a black one from DP tuner!!!

I say you need the codes read and go from there. Might be a CPS but doesn't sound like it.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I have one in the glove box as a spare if this one goes out. Of course the truck is giving me problems when the other truck is in the shop and yes my dad had the recall done about 2 months ago!

I haven't heard of the new ones doing the standard cut out problem but I know they cause a slew of other problems.

Did she see any dash lights flash when this happened? Was there a CEL? (if so get the codes read). When it died was it like the key was turned off, or did it hesitate, buck, or surge before it cut out?

I asked her that she said it acted as if I just came over and turned off the Key. And she said the battery light came on and another light but she can't remember what it was?

Sounds just like what mine did. Mine used to cut out about a mile down the road after startup, just quit. Got the lights on the dash but can't remember the ones, was to concerned about keeping it on the road and getting it started again, it did.

Politely remind your mother that those lights are kinda important, and ask her to make note of them if this happens again.

Go ahead and make sure the oil is full (always a good check), then you might check the main engine wiring harness around the 42 pin connector. That's the big harness on the drivers side of the motor. The 42 pin connector is the square box with a bolt going through the middle of it. See if the wires below the box have been rubbing on the valve cover, or the wires behind the box are rubbing against the CCV bracket.

Mine chaffed against the CCV bracket behind the connector and would cause a short to ground in the PCM. The result was like someone turning the key off, and my other light was the water in fuel light. Mine stalled out repeatedly, then let me drive 80 miles home (very nervously). It's a free check at least.
