4wd axle

I was looking at the new 4wd trucks recently and noticed that up in front they don't use those old axle's with the big pumpkin differential in them anymore.
Is the new drive line as sturdy and capable as those old systems?
Can you still put lifts on these trucks?

LAST EDITED ON 27-Nov-00 AT 04:35 PM (EST)[p]You're on the right track, but need a little more info. Ford stopped using the straight axle in their 1/2 tons in '79. From '80-'85 you couldn't get any straight axle trucks, they all used TTB, although f250's and f350's ran a heavier unit. In '86 they started putting straight axle, heavy duty Dana60 axles in the F350. Starting in '99, the SuperDuty's run a straight axle Dana50 in the F250 and F350. You can lift a TTB frontend, although it's not as cheap, or as strong as lifting the solid axle models. Now, for my opinion. If you're going to go through the trouble of lifting a truck, why not get at least a 3/4 ton so you have components strong enough to run bigger tires?
