I was at Autozone to day to try to get a SES light checked out. The clerk told me Autozone no longers sells, loans, or uses the code scanners because of California not allowing it anymore.
Anyone know about this one? If it's true I might be stuck buying something off ebay or whatever.
Haven't heard that but I don't live in CA either but it wouldn't surprise me the least if that was true. I'd suggest going to a different AZ or go to another parts store that reads codes. There is probably a better chance some idiot at that AZ thinks he knows what he is talking about when he doesn't.

I did go to another AZ and got the same story that "we don't do that service anymore"........
however,
it's not "California" that caused the issue, it was the companies that make the diagnostic equipment that were not selling due to customers "borrowing" the testers for free. Makes sense, as an auto parts chain you don't bite the hand that feeds you.
I was refered to a few shops local to me that can scan the codes.

Only AutoZones in California were affected. That makes your scenario quite unlikely....

Steve
One autozone told me the state of california stopped the use of the code scanners, the other told me the scanner vendors stopped autozone. I didn't dream up either scenario.
Either way I can't buy or borrow a code scanner from autozone, so I am done playing detective on that one.
