Lifting My Excursion

Can anyone give me some advice. I am thinking of lifting my excursion. I am thinking a 4 or 6in lift. I don't want to go to high since I use it to tow my boat. Does anybody have any recomendations.

Icon Vehicle Dynamics seems to be the popular kit around here lately. I am also a fan of BDS kits, had a BDS on my bronco and it fel great and did everything well.

search on my username for the thread I started.

I have towed about 6500-7000lb car and trailer with no issues. Had to get a 10" drop hitch to keep things level..

I agree with Icon Vehicle Dynamics.....great quality of components and great ride quality.

Also, they are currently 10% off and free shipping in the contiguous 48 states.

Thanks guys. I tow a boat that is 14000 lbs so will that be to much for a lifted excursion. Also with a 6in lift is the biggest tire I can fit a 35. Does anyone have any idea on what the cost will be with the lift and it installed.

Well on the book 14,000 is to much for the X to handle but I tow 14,000 to so I can't exactly say you are over towing if I am to. But I installed a Echart Heavy duty hitch that can go up to 16,000 and that is the weak link in the X and that is the reason it can only tow 11,000

I also tow 14K I have added airbags, Rear sway bar and a Roadmaster Ative suspension... I have a Class V hitch from Eckarts. The Procomp 6 inch lift I have allows for 315 Bfg's.....I do rub on the springs every once and a while went turning lock to lock...If you go with a 6.5 procome lift you can get 37's but you might have to change the gearing..... I currently have 4:88 and am looking to go back to 4:30's....

6" lift with 325/65-18s(35s). I wouldn't change a thing, love it!
I only tow a pretty small enclosed trailer with a couple of motorcycles so towing is a joke for me.

There are several advantages to "lifting" vehicles, especially if you are using them for heavy towing. First, you increase the "moment arm" on the suspension, so that you can enjoy greater "sway". Makes long drives much more exciting.

Another advantage of "lifting" is that it dramatically raises the "roll center" so that you won't be bored driving. Because the EX has such a well-designed roof-structure, roll-overs are not a problem.

Another advantage is that snot-nosed teen-agers may look up from their lap-tops long enough to think you are "cool".

One suggestion - if you are "lifting" your EX so that you can launch in deeper water, be sure you also "lift" the axles, wheel-bearings, differential, and rear "U" joints.

Just because the body on a "lifted" EX is furthers out of water, dosnt change the fact that most water levels will not be impressed, and will do the same amount of expensive damage to a "lifted" car's running gear, that they will do to a non-lifted one ( again, that is, unless you "lift" the axles, wheel bearings, differential, and rear "U" joints.......)

I would say a 6'' is the most common size lift, and looks really nice on the X. It does not look crazy tall at all.

Mine has a 6 and I love it, handles great, tow my Bass boat all over the place with no prob. ( Bass boat is pretty light though )

I kinda would like a 8'' so I could go with some 37'' s, but I have what I have for now.

Just a little bit too tall

naw...it is not "too tall". If you notice..it has that special "retracting" differential...that climbs up into the lifted body of the truck when rock-climbing.......
