i have a 1966 f100 that i want to change over to disc brakes. i found a donor truck that is a 1973 f250 camper special 2wd. it has disc brakes and i wanted to find out if it interchangable with my truck. will it work changing over from a 3/4 ton to a 1/2 ton rotor?
First and foremost, welcome to FTE!!!. Posting a link to the upgrade below, as John noted, need to find donor F100. Also, if run a search on topic 'front disc. brakes' and narrow field to 61-66 forum should find additional info.
hello to everyone in ford land.... i am new to forum but have been certified ford tech for 15 years now.dont know to much about vintage f100 .i recently purchased 66 f 100,fe 352 and i am currently restoring truck to new. my uncle has 73 camper special f250 with 390,4gear,a/c,p/S,p/b that is a freebie donor but ,my truck is half ton.plan on using as much as possible for project. my question is if i can get wheel bearings from f100 to fit on f250 spindle then will i be able to mount single piston calipers to knuckle...? donor has dual piston calipers. i have read some other threads (sooo many)and found one guy converting from 3/4 to 1/2?? his name was jamlove and willow billy3 said it would work?do i just contact either one for more info or just scrap idea alltogether.thanks for responses from everyone
Appears intend using the 73 for donor parts. Not familiear with the F100 vs F250 swap, you may want to email the members you mentioned and inquire. Suggest research condition of both power tranes, may be able to swap for units that are in better condition, engine tranny, not sure about axle or rear brake assemble, perhaps more knowledgeable member can advise. Believe majority of the engine parts are interchangeable, or perhaps swap if the 73 engine is in better condition, would be interested in finding out what the cylinders are bored to. Also, if should decide to go with the power steering upgrade, believe the 73 camper would be a good donor, the steering box, brackets, pump, pulleys; and depending upon type tranny, the steering column. Also, the drivers side engine purch is slight swooped back to allow for the larger steering box. Finally, if the 352 does not have a 2-3 sheave, or groove harmonic balance the 73 may work, not certain. Finally, depending upon type beds, may be able to patch or repair 66 bed if in poor condition, but that's another project. Anyhow, had an urge to chime in and add my $.02.
thanks for your help daveengelson.took wheels off cs and swap wont work at all. i figured that i could modify some but no go!!! plan on using p/s set up and maybe 4 gear set up.plan on stripping parts. possibly sell disc brakes to buy proper one.thanks for info, will keep posted
