disc brake question for my 66

I am new to this forum, it is awesome! I have not read every thread looking for the answer. I have a 66 f-100 and I am wanting to change over to power disc brakes. I have a friend who will sell me his power disc brake stuff off of his 79 f-150. Will the spindles fit properly or will I need to do some more modifications? I am wanting to lower the truck some for a bit of a street machine look. Would it be easier to get beams for a 79?

I read that. My local parts house told me the kingpins were different sizes. I have seen what looks to be an f-150 graveyard not too far from where I work. I might stop and ask if there might be some 73 or 74 spindles around there. Thanks

It'll be easier if you swap the ibeams, radius rods & all from the donor truck onto yours. Some of the "tutorials" will tell you that. You might want to replace the radius rod bushings & pivot bushings with new urethane ones while you're at it.
Welcome to FTE!

Thanks. That link is pretty cool. I have really been looking at the drop beams for the front and drop shackles for the rear. Any suggestions for that.

For the rear, Fatmanfab.com has a pretty cool set up http://www.webrodder.com/article.php...&SID=16&CID=11

If you want drop DJM beams on the front, this is about a cheap as you'll find them....1965-1974 Ford F100 I Beams Front 3" Drop DJM NEW! - eBay (item 130456509363 end time Dec-18-10 08:43:30 PST)

Those are the ones I was looking at. Do you know anything about them? I really wish the spindles that are on my buddy's truck would work for those. I have been doing a lot of side work to get the funding to start buying and bartering for parts. I have bartered my way into the truck, a 351 out of a '73 wagon, a 3 speed manual out of a '72 full size car. I got the truck from my parts manager at work all I had to do was pull the 428 and c6 out. I need to hunt down a steering column for a floor shift truck since the 3 spd has a sweet old hurst shifter. I am really glad that I found this website I thank you for the replies and insight. I thought about making the 351 a 427 stroker?????? How would my truck look lowered, I can not stand the ones that are practically dragging the ground

Wait a second it just hit me you have the beams from a 78 under yours...there are no issues with it being wider? If not I could get the drop beams for a 79? and then use the rest of the stuff from my friends truck!(the ah ha light bulb moment!)

No, they are the same width. That's why I suggested in an earlier post that you get the beams, radius arms, etc from the same truck you get the spindles from. Use your 66 springs though because the later years have taller springs I'm told. Of course, if you wanna lower the truck then you'll have to consider the DJM beams or switch to the Crown Vic front end or some other type.

What is the difference in the radius arms? Are the ones for the 79 taller than my 66? I am loving the help I am getting. Thanks to everyone.

No, they are the same size, just made with a little different steel. They also have a notch in the ends to hold factory sway bar brackets if you ever wanted to add one.
