Yep LOL there it is. C= Cleveland and E and W= Windsor. Funny the engine tag off the 390 in my Cougar doesn't have a engine plant code stamped into it.
What can you tell me about this engine tag:
First line: 428 68 4 "fomoco" in the oval. the trademark
Second line: 7 L K 401 J
428= cid.
68= the model year.
4= Would be change level me thinks.
7= is the year of production 1967
L= the month of production of Nov.
K 401 J engine code.
On the engine code I'm not certain if the K and J apply and just the 3 digit number was the code.
So the tag is from a 68 428 produced in Nov of 67.
Thanks again for more info!
Well, it is a 428. At least that is special.
Well the tag is from a 428. Whether or not the engine is a 428 would need to be found out. Unless you know the entire history of the vehicle that little tag is pretty easy to swap. I've seen my share of shifty s#!t pulled by people and that's an old favorite. So....
then he asking why he didnt go with a "500 series" engine in it.
I suppose that comes from the Shelby designation? 350 or 500?
My pickup has Shelby covers on it..............so every "expert" tells me it's a Cobra motor? Or even better a 454?
I used to get real tired at car shows listening to the "book expert" tell me about whatever(they read it somewhere, so therefore they KNOW it's true).
I really like the ones that come up to your car/truck and say "I used to have one just like it"...........only it was a 4dr(not a 2dr), blue(not white), big block(not small block), etc. Just LIKE it!!! ya.
My favorites are the ones that say they had one just like it but put a 350 in it. WTF?!! In my head I say, "What an unimaginitive retard. Why didn't you just go buy a friggin Chevy then since you love em' so much?" It's the same thing in the Toyota Land Cruiser world.
