I am thinking of swaping out my 351W for a 460. Does anyone know who makes motor mounts for this swap. Also is there any additional info that I need to be aware of. I have a 1983 F150 4x4 with the 351W.
BRENT, NOW I NEVER HEARD YOU TALK ABOUT SWAPPING IN A 460, YOU TALKED OF BUILDING A 428 STROKER OF YOUR 351. WHY DONT YOU JUST DO THAT. YOU KNOW IM JUST GONNA KEEP MY 300 SIX, JAMES THINKS IM GONNA BUY HIS RAGGED OUT 390, WELL I DONT NEED HIS USELESS JUNK, WHEN I GET THE MONEY IM GONNA MODIFY MY SIX TO MAKE MOST V8s LOOK LIKE 4 BANGERS
HEY GO WITH THE STROKER MOTOR.
Brent,

There are other companies but AA is by far the most complete.
Crueljohn,
I hope you have a lot of money if you think your gonna make your 300 cid, embarrass Brents potential 460 swap. There is a reason they dont even let them race together(V8s and 6s). Dont get me wrong I think the 300 is a great stump pulling motor, with great 4 wheelin characteristics. But though you can build it to outperform some stock V8s, if the same same amount of time and money are put into almost any V8, that you will have put into your 6, Im affraid your mill would wind up on the wrong end of a good but kickin. Remember, "Theres no replacement for displacement".

Brent,
HDmonday is right that 460 in a half ton will scream and have plenty of torque. You can get motor mounts from L&L products and you will also want to raise your front springs because that is a heavy motor and it will drop the front end.
When I lifted my F250 a went with superlift springs, engineered for the diesel motor. You have to specifically request them. The 460 is a heavy motor, but I have seen them used in quite a few full size Broncos. The torque is unmatched and very impressive in the 1/2 ton set up.
Jeff
if you have a 351 W you will need the tranny for a big block or 351/400 M as the bellhousing is smaller on the W motor and you can get the motor mounts for 132 dollars includes shipping

I love my 460 and I would suggest the swap from that 351 (even though it's a good motor too). But I'm just commenting about something mentioned earlier. It wouldn't take that much money to make the 300 inline 6 stronger than alot of V8's. Now, will he be better than my 460 without spending a huge amount of money? No. But a few mods and that inline will embarass some 8 cyls. My buddy has an '84 F150 with the 300 and it can smoke our other friend's 302 and another guys 305 (GM). I ain't trying to flame anyone, but don't knock it til ya try it.
Performance Automotive Warehouse CA pawengineparts.com? sell a frame adapter from Transdapt #9433 about75$. The egine isolators can be bought from your local auto parts... the application is for a 73 to 79 f series 2wd with the 460 option (i just paid 56$ for the pair). The shells that mount to the block are from the same application but i just recently tried my local dealer and he said they are obsolete.?! you may have to scrounge the junkyard scene or fab or get lucky in the aftermarket (let me know, i'm going to fab mine but would rather not) finish off the swap with hooker #6841 engine swap headers... the cheapest? price for those is at summitracing.com $370. some thicker flywheels may require you to notch the bell housing for clearance and watch the throw out forks, too. the alt and power steering has to be mounted high a fab project. My first swap was from a tired 400 to an approx 500 hp 460 and got 8mpg from the 5600 lb truck. but i trade the 850 dbl pumper for a 750 vac and now get 9mpg ... but it needs to burn premiun 10.5:1 ratio. good luck dnadzam@atsengineers.com
I am not sure about the remaining specifics to do the swap into the 80's series truck, but it should be similar.
pittsburgh_78f250, 80's Fords came from the factory with 460's.
Shouldn't need all that special swapping stuff the late 70's
guys have to use. I wouldn't swap a 460 in though because I
wouldn't want to mess with changing the trans.
