It seems that i have a oil leak that comes from where the dip stick enters the oil pan is this a hard fix ? I have only had my truck a short time it is a 2000 f250 7.3 . I dont know much about these trucks i have only driven smaller cars and truck tell now also how do i tell if i have a limited slip dif . thank for the help
This is a fairly common problem. If you do a search here in this forum you will find a couple of ways to repair. I would give you links to a few but my hard drive crashed a couple of weeks ago and I lost all of my help threads.
As far as the dipstick flange, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...with-pics.html. Pretty easy to fix, just DONT drop the nut flange into the pan. For the limited slip, get onto some loose dirt and give it some fuel...if you leave 2 lines, its a limited, if one, its an open carrier. Another way is to jack the rear up and spin the tire on one side. If the other tire goes the same way, it is limited. Make sure the trucks front wheels are chocked if you do this, as the truck needs to be in neutral. There is a chance you have a limited slip, as the traction lok axles have been known not to lock up very well... I remedied that by using no friciton modifier... good luck and welcome!
that last line is confusing, sorry. I meant to say, if the truck only spins one tire with a lot of throttle on loose dirt, it could still have a traction lok carrier, just may be worn out....
whats bad is that ford made it to where you got to pull the motor if it was took to a dealer im glad someone else found another way to do this job. Hope this goes good for ya

I thought I had the dreaded dipstick tube flange leak but on closer examnination it was the dipstick tube o-ring. Pulled tube, replaced o-ring and re-installed. No leak. Hope that is all you need.
