This may sound dumb, but i noticed a fuel leak in the valley of my 97 7.3, someone told me that it could happen when the fuel filter is extreamly dirty. Not sure if this is true but i figured since i hadn't changed the filter since i got the truck minus well do it. So the question is, if this claim true or not. I just did the filter and the fpr screen, now i'm gonna wait and see. any input is very much valued.
I would put money that it's your fuel pump. They have a weep hole in the bottom of them that fuel will drip out when the pump starts to go.
It could be potentially anything thats in the valley..lines, rusty canister, etc. The best thing to do is get some simple green and start cleaning up the valley to pinpoint where its leaking from.
X2 what FARM69 said. Clean that valley of death as clean as you can get it then start your truck and using a good mirror and a bright flash lite you will find the leak. just be patient.
I have never heard of fuel seeping into the valley because of a dirty filter. I have heard of the truck stopping for lack of fuel though.
Fuel pump is leaking more than likely . Or a fuel line maybe! There is several short 5/16 rubber lines. . If you have to you r and r the fuel pump Don't put your self through pulling the turbo. It can be done without pulling the turbo. Just find an old 1 1/4 inch wrench for the banjo fitting and cut bend and grind it to work. It will save a lot of time.. !
