I picked up this 97 Superduty for $600 the other day (2 weeks of sitting on a low ball offer), runs and drives good. 300,000KM - needs some work for MVI...Over all it's in good shape. Good rubber too. I plan to convert it to 4wd and make a work truck/toy out of it. Dana 80 rear, auto trans. The cab and frame are in VG shape, it came from a local company that I know quite well and it has had regular services since new. I have a spare 97 PSD engine in the garage along with wiring, radiator and exhaust. I strip Ford trucks and sell the parts as a side CASH business so fixing it up will be cheap.
I did a service on it this week and the fuel filter light won't go out??? Is there a procedure to fix this or a common issue with them? The other question has to do with my new INNOVA 3130 scan tool - it hooks up no problem to check the DTC's (there was none) but as soon as I try to link to the truck with it running the truck shuts off. I just wanted to use the live data feature to see the oil pressure. Other than that the truck runs/drives great - I drove it home this morning

1. The sender for the Fuel filter light is located at the top of the filter housing. It looks like an oil pressure sender. The sender is nothing more than vacuum switch that completes the ground circuit to the Fuel filter light. The sender or wiring are bad. You can unplug it if you replace your filter regularly (10-15K miles).
2. Most scanners will not work on diesels. My Auto X-ray does the same thing, kills the engine. Just because you received no codes doesn't mean the scanner woked. Maybe your scanner can be upgraded to work.
Yeah my dad has an Autoxray also from several years ago and it shuts the truck off when you do a running scan too. I always figured the scanner and truck just weren't compatible. Guess it's time for a Snap-on scanner...
snap on scanners work great, but the live data doesn't show oil pressure does it? if so i couldn't find it when i checked the data on my buddies super duty last week.
Yes it does we run the shop snap on scanner on mine all the time and it shows live data. Pretty sweet. Lets me knw how much longer my hpop will hold lol. O and by the way i am gettin my 17* hpop so i will be talkin to you and cody before too long lol.
