Greetings all !This is my first post, so cut me some slack. I bought a 2003 f250 SD crew cab 2WD with a 6.8 v10. I love the truck ,but i want to lower the rear so the truck will be level .Has anyone done this? Can anyone help? Thanks.
Welcome to FTE
I would say it is more effective and cheaper to buy a leveling kit for the front. I would think when you lower the rear you will need to reshim your axle to get the right driveline angles. More will chime in with their opinions.
yes leveling kit is the way to go, you will have much better results. But beware of your driveline angle. You might have to put a spacer on the carrier bearing for the driveshaft.
those 2wd's are low enough as it is, you're DEFINITELY better off lifting the front a bit because lowering it just means that you're making yourself more susceptible to bottoming out on something eventually. go higher, not lower!
agreed. Your truck was designed for, and performs best, at stock ride height. And if you have a 2wd with i V10 I assume you're hauling, right? Well, lower the back and then put 10k lbs on it and watch the sparks fly at every expansion joint on the highway. And please, get the AEM intake for your truck, because I couldn't get it for mine because I have the measly 330.
I tow a 24 ft camper about 5000 lb and a scrap metal trailer also about 4000- 5000 lbs. I bought the F250 b/c i got a great deal. 2003 crew cab 80,000 miles v-10 for $7300.00. looks and runs great. i quess the v-10 scared people with the gas the way it is now.
Personally, I'd much rather lower the rear than lift the front and deal with all the twin I-beam, radius arm, BS up there.
A buddy of mine dropped his 2wd front and rear, rides on 22s and has towed a 10,000lb trailer all over the country for work. No issues at all....no load assist air bags or anything. Properly loaded trailer and the rear of the truck barely dropped with the trailer....definitely no sparks or bottoming out.
Lowering a 2wd is fine.

I know a few people use these only 2" though: Diesel Innovations - Products
Or, DJM makes a 3" rear drop: Ford Applications
I don't know about the diesel innovations kit, but I know that DJM is high quality parts. Lowered my wifes truck with a DJM kit and the parts were a lot higher quality than the OEM parts that I replaced.
