hi all,
just received the 2 heavy boxes from the UPS SantaClaus guy this week from Speedway motors. Yeah! (279+$48 shipping from Nebraska to CO ouch)
My 57 solid axle and spindles were just waiting for this.
the instructions were only marginally helpful (i like pictures more than descriptions).
has anybody else who has done this install had to grind the mounting bracket and/or calipers? there is absolutely NO WAY this will bolt on as is without modification. i don't mind taking 1/8" or so from the outer edge of the bracket, but it also looks like i'm gonna have to take down another 1/8" from the caliper right in the middle.
i've done a search here and did find some similar pix and tips- that helped but was this a bolt on for you? or was a little custom fitting and persuasion required?
thanks
andy
When your saying brackets and calipers, I'm assuming you have the disc brake conversion? I'm also assuming the rim is hitting the bracket and caliper? You have to remember, when doing a disc conversion, you have to have a minimum of a 15" rim. and some 15" rims are tight or don't work because of design and offset. I'm running 17" rims on my truck and there isn't a lot of clearance with that. I wouldn't grind the brackets or calipers either, especially if you haven't tried to see if they actually work.

yes front disc brake conversion. eventually will have 16" rims, 15" now. haven't even tried rotor fit- will head down and do it now.
no- the caliper pins will not line up with the holes in the bracket without a bit of metal removal from the brackets.
sounds like whoever pick your parts for shipping screwed up i would not grind them ,because you might not be able to send them back for the right parts..........
I got the kit for my 55; the instructions said you may have to grind some off the brackets themselves however, it wasn't necessary. I brought mine from Bob's F-100 back in 1993, since I've seen lots of kits which look the same. I definitly wouldn't grind the calipers to get them to line-up. There are lots of tech articles on the internet there is one on CCP's website.
Did this on my 53 a while back with no issues. I have pictures on my website if it helps. No problems with my install, maybe you were sent wrong parts.
