Its about time. Its been 9 weeks since I bought the tranny to when I finally fixed the u-joint issue last night. I do not have the X-member bolted down yet, so I just moved the truck back and forth under its own power. I'm loving it!
Overall, the process was pretty straight forward. The X-member needs moved back a little bit, but The drive shaft center support did not need to be moved.
I was told there would be no drive shaft/u-joint problems, but I guess there are different tail shafts on the transmission, so I called the ford dealership and they told me to go to napa after measuring for the new u-joint and they will make one for me.
The best part....I dont get the ear-splitting, gear grinding noise in neutral with the clutch out!
It cost about $550 including the $280 for the transmission.
No it had a SMF in it already, the parts on the list you gave me were similar to what was in the truck already. I got the main X-member bolted in this afternoon and after I eat, I'll go and put the gussets in and wrap this project up!
Yeah, we're about to run out of good weather for truck upgrdes tho - I'm installing a manual lockup for the E4OD, I had to run to like 4 different stores till I can find a DPST (normally closed) relay for it tho. Not that the relay is needed for the regular setup, but we have way too many idiots on our roads and I'd like to be able to lay on the brakes without fear of not having enough time to disengage the lockup and thus damaging the converter. Just made the relays setup (I use two in series) now tomorrow I only need to power it up and run the wire to the trans harness and it will be good, right in time for a 150-mile furniture delivery run.
