That many starters cannot be bad. There has to be some other issue that needs to be addressed.
I would look at all the cabling, make sure there is no corrosion anywhere. All grounds are tight, rust free, etc.
Like Dan and Jim said it could be your cables depending on how old the truck is they could be gettting pretty wore. Also get an amp meter and check your alternator like Jim suggested before it boils down to the starter. Also it could be your glowplugs or glowplug relays.
Welcome to FTE. Is this one of those "lifetime warranty" rebuilt starters from the local parts store? I know the "lifetime" alternators tend to fail at around 12 months. Starters could be the same way.
I got some questions for you, do you have a multimeter and an amp clamp that can read up to 800 amps ( the higher the better) if you do i can help guide you through some trouble shooting steps to determine what the promblem is
I would test your cables by using a multi meter to check voltage drops through the cable from the batt...should be close to 0v. go from positive battery to positive starter cable..neg to neg, etc. following each respective wire.
If any VD's show up, check your cables and connections
I was having a really tough time trying to install a second high amp alternator, The two kept competing and eventually killing each other, but the company helped me through the install and took them back whenever a murder occurred. Ultimately found out that you can't do what I was attempting , so the dying alternators wasn't their fault. But I wound up with a great single 250amp alternator. High torque starter has been in there since 03 with no complaints. Cranks over a lot faster than the old stock starter.
By the way if you start thinking about upping your alternator amperage or your starters amp draw, don't forget that you'll need to upgrade the power handling capabilities of your wiring. Start thinking about 2 or 0 gauge wire all the way around your charging and starting system, don't forget the negative side as well. I learned it the hard and expensive way.
