I'm installing a anti-rattle kit (new weatherstrip) in my 79 but can't keep it in the channel. IT keeps falling out and I've tried everything to get it to stay in the groove. So what's the trick??
Well from the factory no adhesive was used. There is a groove in the metal window channel that allows the weatherstrip to slip under. I might try soapy water......
What i've tried before with some success is hair spray. When its still wet it kinda works like a lubricant but when it dries its sticky and the excess cleans off easy. You might give it a try. I have also held a string on the rubber for areas that the rubber gets crammed into and there is also a little flange of rubber that has to flap over outside (hope this is making sense) after you cram the rubber in there you pull the sring and it pulls that part of the rubber into place, works great on windshields. You might give it a try.
I wouldn't go to all the trouble of takin' or shippin' them back just use some clear silicone here and there, it'll stay in place and no1 but you will know they've been 'stuck on'....
I don't really know; mine was by a company called "Repops" or something like that. It was in a long yellow box. LMC is known for carrying sub-par foreign-made junk. In general, Mac's has higher quality stuff. I don't know what brand LMC's anti-rattle kit is, maybe it's the same, maybe it's different. I do believe Mac's is a site sponsor because I think that is how I found them.
I got mine from LMC and had zero problems. I took mine and pinched it as I installed it and fed it into the channel that way. Once it was in place I rolled the window up tight and let it sit that way in the sun to get it to seat. I used silicone spray on the backside to make it easy to slide in.
