my light has been coming on and then off the last coupleof weeks so i decided to get a diagnostic done on her at the dealer, he comes and tell me i need to replace my injector harness, didnt think about gettin code print out, but my question is this.... would it be wise to take it to charlotte this weekend or should i leave it parked, its running fine, no major smoking, just the light every now and then.
Well, the worst that could happen is anywhere from rough running to a dead engine. Did he say if it's the actual thick harness from the PCM to the block, or the harness under the valve cover? Either way, it sounds like you might have a wire that's worn thorugh the insulation and is occasionally grounding out. If that's the case I'd look for it myself and fix it instead of getting gouged by the dealership for something simple.
Fix it before you drive it that far. It might be good now, but if that inner plug comes out one more millimeter then you have a big problem and you will be far from home.
I agree with what Danny said. I would look at where the wiring goes into the valve cover and look for signs of chaffing there. It could also be that the connector under the cover is loose.
The hardest part about the UVC harness is getting the damn valve cover off, and if you're lucky, it's the driver side 'cause the pass side sux!! More than likely the connector clip broke from vibration, or it just rattled loose. You can slap it back together, or throw a new one in there if you got extra cash laying around...
Did you check to see if the harnesses on both covers, Externally ,were pushed in all the way? And the 42 pin connector was secure and the 42pin connector wires aren't rubbing the valve cover?
