Cab replacement question

Ike took the top out of a tree and dropped it on my cab. I believe its probably repairable but my cab corners need replaced, there's a small hole in the floorboard below the gas pedal and I found some holes rusted through below the windshield when I removed the cowl to clean out all the leaves and debris. I've never seen rust there on a vehicle before.

I'm considering just replacing the whole cab. What is the difference between a cab clip and a cab? I am assuming that the clip doesn't include the interior or perhaps even the doors. I'd at least like to sound semi-intelligent when I talk to the guys at the bone yards.

I have never heard of those terms before. I have heard of a "front clip" which is the whole frontend, but never heard that in relation to a cab.

I hadn't either until I went to search for a cab on the web. Two different nationwide auto parts search engines used the terms. I tried both and did get different results (but not so different prices).

A cab is a cab.

A "Clip" is generally both fenders, hood, radiator support all in one unit.

On some vehicles (not ours) you can take the whole front end off in one piece by removing just a few bolts.

That I knew, but both websites used the term "cab clip." One stated "cab clip without cowl." I guess I'll just have to call them to solve the mystery.

staying close to year correct will be easier, even tho the sheet metal is technically the same - the wiring harness pass thrus changed in 87 and again around 93? depending on which way you are going, you might end up with too much hole, or not enuf

Well, I called about a cab and asked them what the difference between a cab and a cab clip was. They're different terms for the same thing. When I asked him why they used two different terms he stated that he didn't know. Some guys there call them cab clips some just call them a cab. I think I feel better, but not really any smarter.

Before you swap cabs, check with your state vehicle licensing agency to find out about ANY REQUIREMENTS relating to the vin on your truck and the replacement cab. There is probably paperwork and documents that will need to be filled out and filed before and after you do the cab swap. This could save you a lot of trouble and money later on if you get stopped by the police for some reason. Dan.
