Some of you guys might remember back in April I found out the wife was pregnant with Twins.
I thought the F-150 had to go so I could get a "sensible" family vehicle. I ended up ditching my 03 Mustang GT instead for what I thought was a smoking deal on a 05 Dodge Durango Limited w/ Hemi.
Fast forward to Saturday. My girls decided to make an appearance.
Anyways, on Monday I put the carseats and whatnot into the Durango. For a full size SUV, I was mighty mad to find out that it can barely fit 2 carseats in the middle row of seats. I thought to myself "Okay, I can deal with this...even with the front seats scooted 6" forward from their normal position and having 0 cargo space."
Then Yesterday, I tried the carseats in the F-150. Now I'm pissed. The carseats fit inside my truck perfectly along with a booster seat. So I have 3 carseats in the back bench and they are all seperated by at least 6" of space between them on all sides. I didn't even have to move the front seats. They are fully extended back on the tracks and the carseats don't even hit.
Why does my F-150 handle 3 carseats better than a full size Dodge SUV? It seems counter-intuitive to me.
I got rid of my freaking personalized, dropped, tuned, absolute blast to drive GT...to buy a POS Dodge that isn't comfortable to drive and has no cargo room. ...it's only redeaming feature is the 5.7 Hemi. Never again Dodge. They deserve the reputation they've gotten. A freaking family vehicle that cannot even serve the purpose it supposedly was designed for.
Sorry for the rant. I'm still seeing red right now because of that thing.
Notes to self:
1. Buy an Expy EL when the truck is paid off. I knew I should have stayed Ford. Good deal or not.
2. Always take carseats and strollers when buying a vehicle.
3. Should have bought a tonneau cover and kept the Mustang GT
Congrats on the twins! Unfortunately the only way to learn something like this is trial and error....I myself would have thought that you could get 2 car seats in a Durango... Hopefully someone else in your situation will read this and learn.
Isn't the Durango really a mid-size SUV, albeit a larger mid-size SUV? It's the same cab size as the Dakota? Full-size would be something built off of the Ram, but Dodge doesn't have anything like that.
yes, the Durango share sheetmetal with the Dakota. But it is 17' long and 7 ft wide. That counts as full-size in my book. But yeah, the F-150 dwarfs it when parked next to the Durango.
I was just expecting more. It's a SUV that has 3rd row seating and a 325 HP V-8...am I expecting too much?
Wish I had owned the carseats when I bought it. I would never have finished the deal then.
When my wife and I went shopping for our most recent vehicle we took a car seat and all three kids (2, 10 and 18) with us so we could all get in and see what the fit would be like. Glad we did.... I was planning on getting an extended cab F250 (looked like a child seat would fit but it left little room for the kids feet) and ended up with a Crew Cab F250. Needless to say, you could put 3 gorillas back there and still have left over space.
Doggonitt if you remember posting this question and check back I told you you would be fine fitting the seats in that truck.. hmmmm
Oh and by the way I just found out I got twin grandsons on the way! due in february..
The Dodge Durango is a midsize SUV, I do not think that company has a full size SUV. Its odd to think that they didn't bulid anything from the Ram platform and followed GM, Ford, Toyota or even Nissan.
Live and learn...and this one has been a painful lesson. appreciate it everyone

I know...and I'm kicking myself about not listening to you and a few others
no idea, but when we were at the hospital over the weekend, 2 sets of twins, 1 set of quads were born. I live on a Island that is roughly the size of Dallas/Ft. Worth (seems like it anyways). there can't be that many multiples in one place can there?
