Have a torino diff in my '50 F1 trying to ID the ratio, tag states as follows
WE8-AV 4LC
3. 00 9 8428
Any and all info will sure be appreciated, I thought it was a 3.0 but in figuring engine rpm/wheel dia/tranny (C4) at 1.1 I sure don't come up with rational numbers. I get actual65mph + minus at 3000. formula sez 82.???? I'm using a 28 Inch dia tire (275/60/15 dunlop).

Make sure you are getting two shifts out of your trans. Doubt this is the problem, as 65 comes up at 3440 rpm with a 3.0 gear if you are in the 1.47 second gear. (or is it 1.46?)
Double check your tach and speedo also. (1 mile take 1 min? Odo read accurately?)
Thanks 85, my speedo is dead on. I was reading the diff ID tag as a 3.0 due to markings. Guess its not. Yes I am getting 2 shifts.
I really need a read on the tag, interested in what it came off and what nomenclature means. Any suggestions?
Well, that does read 3.0 ratio if what you posted is right. Numberdummy has the rundown on these codes & a couple others. He might be by, or you can PM him.
Nah, it won't light up anything but it sure is the first one across the intersection, I jacked it up and counted driveline/wheel revs and it takes 1.5 driveline revs to 1 wheel rev?????
