Well after 3 years this month, my truck finally made it's first voyage. I was able to drive it out of the garage. My brother helped me get the motor and tranny set in and get it running. Some things are temporary (like the wiring), but it fired up. The downfall was, after it was running for awhile, my steering gear blew it's lower seal. I wonder how many other things will creep up. Neighbors probably weren't too happy since I was running it with open headers. But, they'll get over it. For any who don't know. I have installed a 460 (521 stroker). My brother built it for me since I'm not much of a mechanic. Funny thing was, he talked me into the stroker and I had specifically said I want something that is street worthy and daily driver, but when it was all calculated out, the compression was 10.5 to 1 with a smaller cam. So, I elected to just run it on E 85 to see how it'll do. Motor smells like whiskey after it ran. But, it fired right up and sounded good. I have alot of work to do yet, but just getting it to run is a major accomplishment. This was the first time since I owned the truck that I have heard it run and even drive.
thanks guys. I'm almost nervous about it because I keep thinking about what kind of kinks that may need to be worked out since I've started from ground up. But, I guess that's to be expected. It was a great feeling to actually here it run after so much time of just thinking about it. When I can take my first cruise down the street will be the best thing.
Well, I put new lower pitman arm seals in again today in my steering gear box. I didn't fire it up yet though. Hopefully, this will fix the leak problem and I can get back to at least being able to start it and drive it out again. I'm going to clean up the wiring and get everything permanent, install my autometer gauges and then work on the front clip. If everything goes OK, it shouldn't take me too long to get the front put together.
